Elders Appreciation\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>

Elders are the bedrock of any community. Their wealth of knowledge and experience play a significant role, influencing how families and communities lead their way of life.<\/span><\/p>

Many of our elders who travelled to these shores are now in their 80s and 90s, some, no longer with us. There is a clear and present danger of losing their life experiences and more importantly knowledge forever.<\/span><\/p>

Now, one thing is for sure\u2026 our elders could tell many stories of life in Derby\u2026 a time when we supported and looked out for each other\u2026 a time when we had a strong sense of community.<\/em><\/span><\/p>

It is hard to truly acknowledge our elders\u2026 if you do not truly comprehend their journeys\u2026 It is imperative for your wellbeing to have an insight into your family\u2019s history.<\/span><\/p>

  2. How many of you know about their early years and schooling?<\/span><\/li>
  3. Can you travel to your parents and\/or grandparent\u2019s homeland and walk in their footsteps?<\/span><\/li>
  4. What were the circumstances that led to the decision to leave their homeland?<\/span><\/li>
  5. What was their plan?<\/span><\/li>
  6. How many of you know about your parent\u2019s journey to England?<\/span><\/li>
  7. Where did your parents live when they first arrived in England?<\/span><\/li>
  8. Did they settle in Derby immediately? If yes, Where did they live? How did they live? Where did they work?<\/span><\/li>
  9. What was their experience of Derby in those early years?<\/span><\/li><\/ol>

    There are many questions that could be asked and so much to learn.<\/span><\/p>

    You do not know what is missing until you realise what you have missed.<\/em><\/p>

    Building on the great work already undertaken we will work together at a greater depth to learn more about the foundation of our community in Derby. It is important and fundamental cog in our journey of rediscovery<\/span><\/p>

      Elders Questionnaire<\/strong><\/p>\n

      DACCI have developed an Elder\u2019s Questionnaire to support the community in a conscious attempt to mitigate the current position.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The form is comprehensive, but not complete, so many question will come to mind as you progress. There will be supplementary sheets to capture these Q&As.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The form will be challenging for some, but necessary, as it will allow future generations to understand \u2018who they are\u2019 and \u2018where they come from\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The form is set for a first-generation sibling to ask their mother and father or the first-generation sibling child to ask their grandparents.<\/span><\/p>\n

      This must be an immediate focus for our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Answers given will allow families who participate to\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
