The Mojatu Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that works to empower and support ethnically diverse communities – predominantly people of African and Caribbean descent – whose needs are often overlooked.

Our work tackles discrimination and helps communities who often experience racial inequalities to have the opportunities, knowledge, and skills needed to feel they can participate and thrive in the wider community.

As part of this mission, we run an online news platform and publish a quarterly print magazine that is distributed for free throughout Derby. More recently, we have branched out into producing podcasts and short films to further disseminate helpful information.

Mojatu also offers training workshops and work experience placements for young people who are interested in pursuing a career in the media and want to shape their own narratives.

Our name is a Swahili word which loosely translates to ‘unity’ and we seek to create this within Derby by providing a platform that brings people together.
